Sewing Machine Operator
The San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind has been awarded contracts with the Federal Government under the AbilityOne Program. The AbilityOne Program helps thousands of people who are blind or have other severe disabilities find employment. The program coordinates its activities with nonprofit organizations across the country to employ these individuals and provide goods and services to the Federal Government at a fair price.
The San Antonio Lighthouse must maintain a 75% ratio of blind employees to sighted employees for government projects. Therefore, the Lighthouse is seeking to fill these positions with legally blind personnel.

CNC Fabric Cutting Operator
The San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind is seeking a CNC Fabric Cutting Operator. Under the supervision of the Plant Manager, this person will be responsible for all fabric cutting projects in the manufacturing area using Modaris CAD software to create pattern markers and maintain technical paper work to support the programs and perform preventative maintenance. This position also assists the Project Manager in the company's over all fabric cutting programs.
JOB FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain preventative maintenance
• Study guides, samples, charts, and specification sheets; or confer with supervisors or engineering staff to determine setup requirements.
• Generate all pattern markers by creating from scratch or from existing patterns.
• Download marker files into CNC fabric cutting machine and test.
• Install, level, and align components, such as gears, chains, guides, dies, cutters, and/or blades to set up machinery for operation.
• Repair or replace worn or defective parts or components, using hand tools.
• Unroll, lay-out, attach, or mount materials or items on cutting tables or machines.
• Stacks cut items and load them on racks or conveyors or onto Gaylord containers.
• Operate machines for test runs to verify adjustments and to obtain product samples.
• Adjust machine controls, such as heating mechanisms, tensions, and/or speeds to produce specified products.
• Operate machines to cut multiple layers of fabrics such as mesh, fleece and spandex made from cotton or nylon materials to make jackets, shirts and pants.
• Cross train in house employees; visually impaired and sighted.
• Maintain good housekeeping.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to do intermediate level mathematical calculations (College Level Algebra and Geometry) No college degree is required.
• Ability to read blue prints and patterns.
• 5 years CNC fabric cutting experience with a sense of urgency and a proactive mind in a fast pace facility.
• Ability to operate a computer with AutoCAD 2007, Modaris Marker Making Software, Windows 2000, Access, Word, Power Point and Excel
• Good communication both oral and written; able to prepare correspondence.

Furniture Sales Manager
The San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind is a seeking a Furniture Sales Manager. This individual will be responsible for executing all aspects of the organization’s furniture program objectives and initiatives. This position will develop new business, and broaden the range of existing business within Federal, State and local markets and the Ability One Program.
Essential Functions:
Address customer concerns and complaints.
Make sales calls on existing customers and prospective customers.
Communicate and coordinate activities with furniture manufacturers, installers, and lighthouse representatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of retail store operations, management, supervision, and logistics.
College Degree preferred.
Three to five year’s experience in the furniture industry, sales and customer service.
Two years experience with military and/ or supply stores preferred.
Working knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Working knowledge of CAD, CAP, GIZA, or any other design software a plus
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including communication.
Working with the disabled and military agencies.
Knowledge of military procedures and policies.
Knowledge of Federal Supply System, including nomenclature and numbering
systems.

Manufacturing Sourcing Specialist
Prepare and distribute RFP’s to SALB suppliers, for new or current manufacturing materials, with the objective of securing preferred industry pricing and overall value package. Work with engineering and/or quality departments to obtain material and packaging specifications and/or drawings as required. Participate in the development of specifications for equipment or materials. Analyze market and logistics conditions to mitigate material availability issues.
JOB FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Use tools, technology and networking to identify new vendors of materials, equipment and supplies to qualify their quality, delivery and financial stability.
•Participate in the design and development of specifications for new products or equipment.
•Prepare reports concerning market conditions, logistics and materials costs.
•Issues purchase orders and follows up with vendors to ensure on-time delivery.
•Act as back-up for Plant Buyer as needed.
•Work with Engineering, Quality and Sales to obtain specifications, drawings and expected sales volumes to include in RFQ packages.
•Creates and distributes reports confirming position of SALB vs. industry pricing
•Maintain good working relations with vendors.
•Work with Quality Assurance to qualify new materials.
•Keep manual records as required and maintain permanent files in Fortis
•Assist in physical inventory activities.
•Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
•Report on supplier performance during new vendors probationary ordering periods.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Some college preferred.
•5+ years of purchasing experience
•Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to work congenially with diverse groups of people.
•Knowledge of MRP and spreadsheet and word processing applications.
•Ability to operate standard office equipment, including fax machines and copiers.

Receiver - Tinker
The San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind is seeking a receiver for the Base Service Center on Tinker. The Receiver is the team member responsible for all goods that are received by or shipped from the store. Must work closely with all store personnel to provide quality customer service and communicate with customers as required.
Job Functions and Responsibilities:
•Receive FedEx, UPS, and freight line shipments from commercial vendors and U.S. Government supply depots.
•Ensure the accuracy of all receiving documents, including matching forms (PO, packing slip, computer printout) relative to receiving activities.
•Physically inspect the condition of all merchandise being received.
•Assure that receiving counts match purchase orders and packing slips documents and resolve any discrepancies.
•Complete all appropriate forms needed to report Government discrepancies.
•File all receiving paperwork in PO sequence.
•Identify backorders and place merchandise in designated area for expedited handling.
•Follow all Base Service Center procedures and processes.
•Identify store stock and warehouse back stock.
•Assist in unloading trucks.
•Operate forklift, pallet jacks, carts, dollies and delivery vehicle.
•Maintain all equipment in the receiving/warehouse area.
•Participate in regular inventory cycle counts and annual complete physical inventory.
•Keep a clean, orderly warehouse with merchandise clearly identified.
•Rotate stock, identify and record dated merchandise, and log all damaged product.

Senior Machinist Tool and Die, Maintenance Specialist
Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager the machinist will analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. The Machinist will also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
JOB FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.
•Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
•Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
•Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
•Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
•Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
•Analyze operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
•Train Personnel on Tool Department equipment and processes.
•Develop and provide presentations and/ or demonstrations of Tool Department Projects or activities to staff, management, or visiting personnel as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Must have high school diploma
•Must have strong educational background as an indication that the person can more easily adapt to change, which is a constant in this occupation.
