Eads Building Dedication
We honored Charles "Chaz" Neely, Jr. whose family donated the building on Eads Street to the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind. This building has allowed for the growth of the Lighthouse offering opportunity for more employment of blind and visually impaired people in San Antonio as well as growth of business on the Southside.
In attendance were Firstmark Credit Union representatives and Councilwoman Jennifer Ramos, all of which support the Lighthouse.

First Tee and USBGA Kids Golf Clinic 10/01/09
The United States Blind Golf Association along with First Tee San Antonio held a golf clinic for blind and low vision youth of all ages from the San Antonio and surrounding area school districts. This was an opportunity for children with visual impairment and blindness to be introduced to the game of golf and know that if they "believe it, they can achieve it". The students from the San Antonio Lighthouse High School to Work Transition Program also participated in this fabulous experience. Clubs and balls were provided by First Tee, a wonderful lunch generously donated by KFC along with beverages and cookies from McAlister’s Deli. A day these incredible kids soon won’t forget!

WALK
The First Annual Weston Wright-Lighting the Way 5K Run/Walk benefiting the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind (SALB) High School to Work Transition Program - held on Saturday, September 26 at Mission County Park 1 was a huge success – Over 250 came out for the run and stayed after for the fun!

HEB was the Title Sponsor with many others joining in to make this an “amazing race”. Benihana sponsored the racing numbers. Jamba Juice had their delicious smoothies, Starbucks brought coffee, Whole Foods, Glaceau VitaminWater and Rita’s on the River supplied water, fruit, health bars, etc. ProCare Spine had racers lined up for massages and our Grant Writer, Kira, played with her band 800 miles during the entire event. Cindy Garcia, a former blind employee of the SALB opened the festivities with a beautiful acappella rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
