Because more than half of all persons who are blind or visually impaired are over the age of 55, the San Antonio Lighthouse offers a unique opportunity for them to stay independent and active. Since the senior population is expected to double within the next 30 years, this center is not only growing in its number of participants but in importance to the community as well.
Most middle-aged and older Americans fear blindness more than all other physical impairments.
