Why do you serve on the San Antonio Lighthouse Board?
With my professional experience in the realm of disability employment with the State of Texas Vocational Rehabilitation, H-E-B, and now thredUP, I have a passion and appreciation for the Lighthouse’s strategy to embed inclusion of people with visual differences into employment culture not only at the Lighthouse, but with employers in the community.
What do you love the most about the San Antonio Lighthouse?
I have a fondness for the internal culture of the Lighthouse. Serving on the board means we get a sneak peek at the happenings behind the scenes and it’s a lively, inspiring, energetic collective of people!
What are some of your hobbies?
I love camping and in general I like to be in the wilderness as much as possible whether it’s the desert, mountains, the ocean or exploring our local Texas Hill Country.
What is a fun fact about you?
I’m a big nerd about crystals, stones and rocks. I have a large collection that keeps growing and I’m a continuous learner about their colors, qualities and meanings
My current role is a Human Resources manager for thredUP building out disability and second chance hiring programs, as well as a mental health and wellness program for our employees.
Favorite book, podcast or a favorite quote?
I’m a Ralph Waldo Emerson fan, so some of my favorite quotes from him are:
“Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.”
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.”
