Meet the Board: Paula Miles

Why do you serve on the San Antonio Lighthouse Board?
I came because I was intensely curious about the people, the technology and the adapted machinery. I stayed when I came to understand the Lighthouse mission and observed its impact. I felt called to play a part in all of it.

What do you love the most about the San Antonio Lighthouse?
The people and the purpose.

What are some of your hobbies?
I’m a voracious reader of all genres and I always have a book with me. My husband and I are long-time collectors of art created by African American artists, specifically works on paper from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) period forward. I enjoy learning about artists and finding ways to meet those who are still creating. I enjoy cooking for my extended family and for friends, too.

What is a fun fact about you?
I do quite a lot of impromptu dancing – in my kitchen, in grocery store aisles, etc. – with and without music. Drives my grandson crazy, my daughter often joins me, and my husband doesn’t even bat an eye. Anymore.

Occupation?
After a 30+ year first career as an energy utility executive, I’m into my second act as the founder of a consulting and coaching firm.

This is the hardest question! I have so many favorite books, but the two that come to mind right now are Think Again by Adam Grant and Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown.
