Van joined the Lighthouse in 2008 and currently leads the store in the most tickets processed per year. She also has a remarkable five percent return rate for items sold.
“Van takes pride in her store and it shows to anyone she interacts with,” said Craig Recker, director of San Antonio Lighthouse Base Supply Centers. “She receives compliments from our customers on a daily basis due to her professionalism and outstanding customer service.”
Van leads by example and trains new store personnel. She demonstrates that physical challenges do not limit or define potential as she’s able to achieve anything she puts her mind to.
During high school, Van represented her school as a cheerleader. Additionally, she was an active member of the school’s Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) program which prepares emerging leaders for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. After high school, Van earned a certification in Early Childhood Development. She then continued her academic journey by doing several years of college and earning an Associate’s Degree. She continues to challenge herself both professionally and personally.
When Van joined the Lighthouse team in 2008, she was assigned to manage the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Postal Service Contract on the FAA campus. Van deftly handled all cash transactions, package handling, administrative duties and the reconciliation of her sales on a daily basis. Van performed all these duties as the sole Lighthouse employee for this operation. Upon completion of this contract, Van was moved to our Tinker Base Supply Center as the Lead Cashier which expanded her resume and gave her the opportunity for growth within the Lighthouse family.
